Rawson was a town constructed to be home to the workers of the Thomson Dam by the Board of Works. Today we are fortunate to have in place a number of excellent sporting facilities such as an indoor swimming pool, indoor basketball stadium and outdoor tennis courts. These sporting facilities are managed locally by the Rawson Facilities Committee of Management and these facilities are open to the public. Hiring of these facilities can be arranged by staff at Rawson Village.
Rawson is centrally located to the township of Erica, the historic goldmining town of Walhalla, Mt St Gwinear (which offer great snow play during winter and wonderful wildflowers in spring), Mt Erica, and the mighty Thomson Dam.
With the opening of the South Face Road in June 2008, the snow fields of Mt Baw Baw are approximately 35 minutes from Rawson Village. Remember during the snow season it is necessary to carry chains.
Rawson Village is happy to provide information about activity programs, what to see, and things to do in the area, but it is the responsibility of the individual or the group leader to check the suitability of these activities for themselves or for their group.
